A beautiful beach, an amazing view, great food, good service and a drink in hand. What more could anyone want, at least for that moment in time! For Cadiz, there is nothing better than the Tirabuzon restaurant situated right on the Santa Maria beach just a short walk down the beach boardwalk from old town. The breezes along with the sea air and wonderful dishes served up from the attentive staff make any day or night special. During the season, reservations are highly recommended.

EL Faro is as traditional as you can get for a Spanish restaurant in Cadiz, or anywhere in Spain. Firmly rooted in seafood fresh from the sea, EL Faro, which means lighthouse has been in continuous business since 1964, which regretfully makes it still younger than me! But their food never gets old, with a decidedly hip twist to the expertly prepared and wonderfully served dishes. Whether you nibble and drink at the boisterous bar or dine in style at the restaurant on the other side, this landmark does not disappoint.

Situated in the beating heart of Cadiz old town lies Casa Lazo house restaurant. This traditional restaurant that specializes in Jamon Iberico along with superb tapas, fish and chicken dishes, this place should not be missed. You have to make a reservation and the service by the owners is as good as the food they serve. The prices are easy on the eyes as well.

A visit to Cadiz cannot be complete without a visit to the public El Mercado (the market) in the center of old town. It is by far one of the freshest and bestest (I know that’s not a word) markets we have ever been from. Fresh seafood from the bay of Cadiz along with a plethora of fruits, vegetables and meats along with local cheeses and wines are a plenty. There are tons of small kiosk restaurants too, including one of our fav sushi spots!

Cadiz lies within the Sherry triangle which is the region of Spain where wine from that region can only bear the name Sherry. Anything else has to be called Shirley or something! And one of the best places to get it from the source is Taberna La Manzanilla buried deep in the streets of old town. Not only is the Sherry poured from age old barrels that the owner serves up something to behold, and drink, but his offerings of little tapas is the perfect addition to, in our case, several hours of hard sampling.

Restaurant Calachica is one of those places that only the locals know about and for good reason, it’s so great! Sitting on the edge of the port where the cross bay ferries leave from, this restaurant/bar/party place has the best sunset views in town. It also has the best live music concerts to dance, drink and eat by offering a good selection of food and fun! Shish, don’t tell anyone else.
