Should you visit Alicante
With an undeniable and irresistible combination of sun and fun, it is no wonder that Alicante is one of the top vacation destinations for Madrid city dwellers and Valencia party seekers. Located on the Med, with a small but charming old town and a plethora of top end restaurants, bars and nightclubs, Alicante provides everything one would look for in an easy to reach and afford holiday. The weather is temperate and the waters are warm in the summer, although the temps can be very hot in July and August. Hotels and rentals are numerous and fairly affordable, as are the restaurants, bars and attractions.
Should you retire to Alicante
With readily available everything, from rentals to real estate sales at reasonable prices, tons of dining and entertainment options and multiple transportation offerings from a close to town modern airport, low cost tram that goes to all the other beach towns, and a train station with many connections, Alicante is a good retirement bet. However, it does get very hot in the summer and is often overrun with tourists in the town central and local beach area. Also, it is not close to any other primary tourist destinations in Spain, with Madrid, Valencia and other cities over two hours away by train or car.
Alicante is the party and play area all too well known to those in the EU but typically invisible to those from other countries. And the EU folks like it that way, keeping the glorious beaches, fantastic restaurants and non-stop parties to themselves. With all of this under the watchful eye of the centuries old castle on the top of the mountain, the Alicante marina, beaches and historic old town provide a wealth of experience to all who are fortunate enough to discover it.
With direct and low cost flights and train service from all major Spanish towns, Alicante is super easy to access. Hotels, tourist rentals and even boat rentals are available ranging from economy to five stars. The high season runs from late may with their one week non-stop street party, Las Hogueras de San Juan, in mid-June until last September. Although due to the mild weather, all year in Alicante is popular with fun galore. You can also take their beach line tram up the coast to visit several other beach towns, such as Benidorm and Denia.
